Schubert Motorsport carries momentum to the Red Bull Ring: DTM title chase enters penultimate round in Austria
The debut season in the DTM is slowly approaching its end for Schubert Motorsport. From 23rd to 25th September, the BMW M Motorsport team from Oschersleben will be making its seventh of eight stops in the prestigious racing series. The omens for the races at the Red Bull Ring could hardly be better. Schubert Motorsport and BMW factory driver Sheldon van der Linde are in first place in both the team and driver standings. Strong form and a promising hunting ground give the South African and team-mate Philipp Eng a good starting position with the BMW M4 GT3.
In Spa-Francorchamps, Sheldon van der Linde recently extended his lead in the overall standings. The 23-year-old proved his consistency on Sunday with second place on the grid and second place in the race and now has a lead of 32 points over his first rival. With four races to go, a maximum of 116 points are still up for grabs.
With his sixth points result of the season, Philipp Eng ensured that Schubert Motorsport continued to add to its tally with both drivers. The 32-year-old Austrian finished seventh in Sunday's race after a strong recovery from 13th on the grid. Torsten Schubert's team leads the team classification by 37 points.
The event at the Red Bull Ring marks the return to a successful track for Schubert Motorsport. In May, the team won both rounds of the ADAC GT Masters there with the BMW M4 GT3. At the same time, it celebrated a double victory in the DTM at the Lausitzring with Sheldon van der Linde. The most successful race weekend in the team's over 20-year history serves as a good omen for the challenge ahead.
On Friday, two 45-minute practice sessions are scheduled as usual for preparation on the 4.139 km long Grand Prix circuit in Austria. The races over a distance of 55 minutes plus one lap will start at 13:30 on both days. Fans can follow the live action on ProSieben on TV as well as in a stream. In Austria, ServusTV will broadcast the DTM. Furthermore, there is an online service, DTM Grid, which provides access to live timing, highlights and more in addition to the broadcasts.
Team manager Marcel Schmidt: "The upcoming weekend at the Red Bull Ring is crucial with regard to the championship. We are in a good position and would like to go into the finale with the same constellation. We didn't have it easy at Spa-Francorchamps, but the team and Sheldon made the right decisions. That's what matters at this stage of the season. We've been successful with our approach so far and we can't let anything distract us, even with the goal in sight."
