NLS season opener: Schubert Motorsport will field a BMW M6 GT3 and a BMW M2 CS Racing in two different classes

Spring is just around the corner, and the Eifel is calling. Schubert Motorsport will make a long-anticipated return to the Nürburgring Nordschleife this coming weekend (27th March) for the curtain-raiser event of the Nürburgring Endurance Series. The Oschersleben-based outfit will compete in two classes of the 66th ADAC Westfalenfahrt, which constitutes the first of nine fixtures on this year’s NLS calendar.

To spearhead their challenge, Schubert Motorsport will send a BMW M6 GT3 into action over the four-hour distance of the race. BMW works driver Jens Klingmann will partner Dutchman Stef Dusseldorp in the fiercely contested SP9 class. The team last faced up to the GT3 competition in this category in 2017.

The second car – a BMW M2 CS Racing Cup NLS – will be driven by a trio of team founder Torsten Schubert and his sons, Michael von Zabiensky and Stefan von Zabiensky. In the run-up to the race, the trio will take part in Friday’s Nordschleife Permit B tests. By entering the race itself, they will begin the process of obtaining a Permit A driving the 365-horsepower Cup model built by BMW Motorsport.

The test and set-up runs last weekend had to be cancelled due to the frosty conditions, but teams and drivers will get the chance to make up the lost practice kilometres on Friday. Between 09:00 and 18:00 CET, the drivers will have the use of the VLN variant of the Nürburgring, consisting of the GP circuit’s short configuration and the North Loop. The 2021 Nürburgring Endurance Series gets underway with the first race of the season on Saturday at 12:00 CET.

Team boss André Schubert: “We are delighted to be going into the 2021 season after a long winter. For us, the return to the Nürburgring Endurance Series is an exceptionally good way to start the new motorsport year. We at Schubert Motorsport can look back on a long history of competing on the Nordschleife, and we are very excited about the challenges this legendary venue has in store for us in the coming months. With Jens and Stef in the BMW M6 GT3, we see ourselves well positioned in the SP9 category. What’s more, seeing Torsten and his sons in the BMW M2 CS Racing is obviously going to be a special treat for the whole team. I’m sure they will have a lot of fun.”
