New line-up at Schubert Motorsport for the ADAC GT Masters at the Sachsenring
The 2022 motorsport season enters crunch time for Schubert Motorsport this weekend. The BMW M Motorsport team from Oschersleben has another double-header on the agenda from 23rd to 25th September. In addition to the DTM in Spielberg, the Sachsenring is the venue for the penultimate stop of this year’s ADAC GT Masters. In the German GT Championship, Schubert Motorsport is reverting to a changed line-up. Ben Green will be partnered by BMW factory driver Jesse Krohn in the BMW M4 GT3 this time.
The 32-year-old Finn takes over for Niklas Krütten. The 19-year-old talent from Trier will not be at the Sachsenring due to a clash with the European Le Mans Series at Spa-Francorchamps. BMW factory driver Nicky Catsburg will also not be at the start. The 34-year-old Dutchman is pursuing his commitments at the FIA ETCR finale. Accordingly, Schubert Motorsport will be concentrating on fielding the #10 BMW M4 GT3 at the sixth event of the 2022 ADAC GT Masters.
The driver pairing has high ambitions. Nicky Catsburg captured the second pole position of the season for Torsten Schubert's team at the Lausitzring around a month ago. At the 3.671 km long Sachsenring, Jesse Krohn and Ben Green are expected to continue their strong form. The omens for the first appearance with the BMW M4 GT3 at the iconic circuit in Hohenstein-Ernstthal are promising, and not just because of their recent successes. In 2013 and 2015, Schubert Motorsport celebrated two double victories there with the BMW Z4 GT3.
The starting position in the championship also gives reason for optimism at the Sachsenring. In the team standings, Schubert Motorsport has a good chance of finishing the season inside the top-five with four races still to go. Furthermore, Ben Green and Niklas Krütten lead the Junior classification for drivers under 25 years of age. The 24-year-old Briton has the opportunity to make further headway at the top of the standings in the two 60-minute races this weekend.
Good memories with the BMW M4 GT4
In the slipstream of the ADAC GT Masters, the ADAC GT4 Germany is also back in the mix. The high-class GT4 series was not on the grid at the Lausitzring event and is returning from its summer break. Schubert Motorsport has good memories of the Sachsenring from last year with the BMW M4 GT4. In their debut season, the team celebrated their first podium in the ADAC GT4 Germany there with Christopher Dreyspring and Marcel Lenerz.
As usual, Michael von Zabiensky and Patrick Steinmetz will take the wheel of the BMW M4 GT4 this weekend. Both will be competing for the first time with the over 431 hp strong BMW M Motorsport customer sports car at the challenging Sachsenring. After scoring points four times at the previous four events, the duo are looking to add to their tally in the overall standings.
Team manager Marcel Schmidt: "We are in the decisive phase of the season and are facing a particularly challenging weekend. In May, we succeeded across the board with the double wins in the DTM and ADAC GT Masters. It will be extremely difficult to repeat that. Of course we'll try to win, but the most important thing now is not to let good results get away from us. At the Sachsenring, we can concentrate exclusively on the car with Jesse and Ben. We want to get the maximum out of it to go into the final with a good starting position. I am convinced that the two of them make for a strong duo, as is the case with their regular teammates."
