Finale on a high: Schubert Motorsport returns to the Hockenheimring with the ADAC GT Masters
It's curtains up for Schubert Motorsport's final appearance of the 2022 season. The newly crowned DTM champions will once again attack on the scene of their great success at the ADAC GT Masters finale from October 21 to 23. A week and a half ago, the BMW M Motorsport team celebrated the overall DTM victory with the BMW M4 GT3 at Hockenheim. This weekend, the team sets their sights on the next title at the iconic circuit in Baden-Württemberg. In the German GT Championship, Ben Green is leading the Junior standings alongside teammate Niklas Krütten ahead of the final event of the year.
The youngster duo will be supported on their title mission by Jesse Krohn and Nicky Catsburg. The two BMW factory drivers once again pilot the second BMW M4 GT3 from Schubert Motorsport in the ADAC GT Masters. In the ADAC GT4 Germany, Torsten Schubert's racing team is also fielding Patrick Steinmetz and Michael von Zabiensky in the BMW M4 GT4. After a difficult weekend at the Sachsenring, the car is ready to go and the drivers are eager for a positive end to the season in the top-class GT4 series.
The omens for the showdown in the ADAC GT Masters are promising in every respect. Schubert Motorsport was in top form at the DTM finale at the 4.574 km long Hockenheimring. BMW factory driver Sheldon van der Linde finished on the podium in both races on his way to the title. In the ADAC GT Masters, the BMW M4 GT3 can achieve similar performances under the right conditions. In their first season with the new GT3 machine, Schubert Motorsport has already scored two race wins, two pole positions and two fastest laps in the league of super sports cars.
On the seventh race weekend of the 2022 season, there is still plenty in store for the BMW M Motorsport team from Oschersleben. In the team standings, they have every chance of finishing the year in the top-five. All the better, then, that two BMW M4 GT3s will once again be on the grid for the finale. At the Sachsenring, Schubert Motorsport was last limited to fielding one car because Niklas Krütten and Nicky Catsburg were unable to attend due to other commitments. This time, the 19-year-old from Germany and the 34-year-old from the Netherlands will be providing double trouble alongside their teammates as usual.
For Ben Green, moreover, the title in the Junior classification is within his grasp. For a long time he and Niklas Krütten led the standings together. Due to the absence of his team-mate at the previous event, the 24-year-old Briton is alone at the top with 215.5 points. His co-driver follows 22 points behind. In the overall standings, things are also looking good for Ben Green. As sixth-placed, he can easily make it into the top five. Similar to Niklas Krütten, Jesse Krohn can still hope to finish the championship among the top-ten. The 32-year-old Finn is only twelve points from making the cut.
Fresh start on the final weekend in ADAC GT4 Germany
In the ADAC GT4 Germany, the sixth and final race weekend is set to deliver another big result. The BMW M4 GT4 has been rebuilt after the accident at the Sachsenring and is ready for the finale. The potential for a conciliatory end to the season is undoubtedly there. Patrick Steinmetz drove the fastest lap in the Sunday race last time out, once again underlining his ability. The 21-year-old GT4 rookie showed a steep learning curve in his first season. Together with Michael von Zabiensky, fourth place at the Red Bull Ring is the best result of the driver pairing to date.
Team Manager Marcel Schmidt: "We're still over the moon after winning the DTM title, but for the finale in the ADAC GT Masters, maximum focus is the name of the game. We had a very strong start into the season but then we lost touch a bit. At Hockenheim, we want to set our sights on another top result with both cars. The BMW M4 GT3 was of course difficult to assess in its first year for the Balance of Performance, which is why we have to be cautious with predictions this time as well. But the goal is of course to fight at the front once again at the finale and to get the title in the Junior classification."
