Blancpain Sprint Series in Zandvoort: A new challenge

This weekend sees BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert join the current Blancpain Sprint Series season with a BMW Z4 GT3. Zandvoort (NL) hosts the third of seven rounds. Dominik Baumann (AT) and Thomas Jäger (AT) will be behind the wheel of the number 76 car and have their sights set on the podium.

As in the ADAC GT Masters, two one-hour races are held on each race weekend in the successor to the FIA GT Series. The qualifying race begins at 13:45 on Saturday. The main race, in which considerably more points are up for grabs, gets underway at 11:45 on Sunday.

Stefan Wendl (Team Manager Schubert Motorsport): “We are all pleased to have a new challenge to get our teeth into in the second half of the year, and are approaching the task at hand with great vigour. As we have missed a number of races, the championship is not our goal. We want to challenge for individual race wins and continue to develop as a team. We also want to give our young drivers some practice and familiarise ourselves with the Pirelli tyres, which are used in the Blancpain Sprint Series. The nice thing about this series is that, with the exception of Baku, we already know all the circuits and have tasted success at many of them.”

Dominik Baumann: “I am really looking forward to the first race in the new series. I know the environment and the circuits from my time in the FIA GT Series and the GT3 European Championship. With that in mind, I should find my feet fairly quickly. I am also familiar with the BMW Z4 GT3. The only thing I will need to get used to are the standard Pirelli tyres.”

Thomas Jäger: “I am very happy that I am able to line up with Schubert Motorsport in the Blancpain Sprint Series. Having only tested in the BMW Z4 GT3 so far, I am really looking forward to my first race. I will first have to adapt to driving in GT races, flying starts and contact with the opposition. However, I am determined to do this as quickly as possible.”
